Fortnightly update going out to over 1625 subscribers

Our first Green Fork workshop took place two weeks ago in the Borders – another meet up planned their again soon – next one in Dundee tomorrow – exciting times! Besides linking up like-minded people, The Green Fork also works with local activists and campaigners to produce resources like compassionate guide for various cities. If you’d like a copy of the Borders one or the one we’d be launching tomorrow in Dundee, drop us an email at varda@greenfork.org.uk

Busy weekends now – last week we covered three events – a circus protest, vegan outreach and leafleting, and an information stall. Many thanks to the fantastic people who helped – there’s lots going on, so check out the diary below and come along to help.

Finally, our film series this summer was launched on Monday with Meat the Truth. Next one’s Food Inc on the 26 July. Kicks of at 8pm at The Forest, for other dates and screenings see the diary or visit our website.

Some appalling news from Roslin Institute, Edinburgh University: Scientists create 'sick pigs' to cure humans. For everyone in the Highlands - there's a new vegan group up in Inverness! They meet up monthly and are looking for new members and volunteers for helping out at vegan outreach events. Email vegan.inverness@gmail.com for more info.

Lots in the news about the recent fox attack. There's no need for people to fear a brush with foxes. Foxes are wild animals and should be treated with respect. Lots of news from the Plenary Session 16 June 2010/Strasbourg: MEPs set out clearer and more consistent food labelling rules this week. Food labels should feature mandatory nutritional information and guideline daily amounts, according to draft EU legislation as adopted by MEPs. However, they rejected a proposal for 'traffic light' values to highlight the salt, sugar and fat content of processed foods.

The European Commission would like to find out the opinion of EU citizens and stakeholders on the EU Policy on Animal Welfare and to that end it launched, on June 1, an online survey. The survey seeks your views on four types of EU action (legislation, research, communication and international activities). The survey will remain open until 31st July.
