Diageo Deer
EVA
Update: 27th March, 2010. Les Stocker had a meeting with Diageo at the Fife site and has now decided that he can no longer remove them safely. Diageo are now being asked to realse the deer by simply opening the fence. You can email michael.alexander@diageo.com
Update: 22 March, 2010: Diaego are now discussing freeing the remaining deer (possibly by the end of next week) - as a result of public opinion and calls of action against it. Les Stocker from St. Tiggywinkles meeting Diageo this week to organise the move!
Update: 19 March, 2010: Confirmed reports of 6 deer being culled out of the 17 roe deer. SFA have complained to the Fife police that the deer were shot with firearms breaching legislation, and the police have rejected any such allegations. ACAL has mobilised a lot of support as well.
Update: 12 March, 2010: Diaego has taken the decision to cull, and some deer have already been shot. A global boycott of Diaego products is being called for.
Diageo is proposing to kill deer on its grounds to allow expansion of their operations there (more on this here http://www.fifetoday.co.uk/east-fife-mail-news/Leven--Diageo-39we-have.6115578.jp)
2,000 locals signed a petition against the 'cull', decided after Diageo consulted with the Deer Commission. Some news reports point to illness in the herd, though local contacts report that no veterinary assistance has been requested or provided.
All 16 deer have also been offered a new home in Kirkcaldy, with lots of people willing to chip in for the additional fencing required for this at the 'new' site. None of this has made a difference to Diageo, who are essentially claiming that it is kinder to kill than risk the stress of relocation.
Please contact Diageo to urge them not to go ahead with the proposal (sample letter below)

Dear Mr. Walsh,
I write concerning plans by your Company to kill a small herd of roe deer which have lived on land at your bottling plant on the Banbeath Industrial Estate, Leven in Fife for the last ten years or more. The land in question has been left wild but is now required for development to increase the capacity of your facility.
There are other options available to humanely remove and release these animals but simply allowing them to move off the site of their own accord would be the easiest and best option.
I ask Diageo to immediately cancel any plans to cull these deer and to look again at the available non-lethal options for dealing with this situation.
Sincerely,
Your Name
