Action needed urgently! The Edinburgh International Science Festival is running an autopsy of a cow at Edinburgh Zoo on the 13th April. A cow will be donated for this event, and the Festival Director has admitted that that " ...the purpose of this event is not to learn anything new about the anatomy of a cow..." – the ticket is £11 and this macabre event is going ahead for its commercial gain and entertainment at the expense of disrespecting a life. Since the launch of our alert, hundreds of people have sent protest emails to the Festival Director, and other stake holders and funders, including the Edinburgh Council and The Scottish Government. More supporters have joined the face book page to stop this autopsy from going ahead. You can take action, join the facebook page and find out more here http://ethicalvoiceforanimals.org.uk/shownotice.php?articleid=43

Diageo, in Fife, is proposing to kill deer on its grounds to allow expansion of their operations there. There’s an alternative site available for relocation but the company insists its kinder to cull than relocate. We’ve also looked for expert opinion of relocation and confirm that deer can be moved without risk (they only need to be moved 4 miles). 2000 locals have signed the petition against this cull and lots of emails sent. None of this is making any difference to the company and rumors are that some deer have already been shot. We'd be updating the news story on our website as we hear more this morning. Edinburgh Council maintained a ban on pets in its council houses until February, when it launched a pilot scheme allowing pet owners who live in highrise flats to keep their animals. We agree its traumatic to give up companion animals – but a highrise flat is no place for a dog, there simply isn’t enough space for it Read more here http://ethicalvoiceforanimals.org.uk/shownotice.php?articleid=38

21,500 people have signed the petition which urges the Scottish Parliament to give wildlife crimes greater priority and for more resources to go towards tackling the problem. More here http://ethicalvoiceforanimals.org.uk/shownotice.php?articleid=39

Animal Cruelty in Scotland: One dog was dumped dead in a field in Peebles in the Borders with burns over its face and body while in Fife a newborn foal survived after being slashed across the neck, suffering a deep 8in wound. In the Brechin area, a dog was tied up and left to starve to death in woods while in Glasgow a dog survived being shot in the head 13 times with an airgun. A staffie in Glasgow shot in the head 13 times with an airgun by a drunk owner. Reports also of dog fighting rings moving operations up north in Scotland last year after a crackdown on the sick "sport" in England.
