Bi-monthly update going out to over 1600 subscribers
Dear members and friends,
Last couple of weeks, we've been working with our existing 100% fur-free sporran makers and retailers to offer 10% discounts to people who go in with one of our leaflets – we are pleased to inform you this is going ahead and leaflets will be available soon. The campaign against real-fur sporrans grows stronger! Leaflets at wedding fairs are being handed out across the country and the week of action 22May-28May promises to be an exciting one. Organizing an action is easy, get in touch for ideas and resources.
We’ve been designing and producing lots of new leaflets – and leafletting, stalls and neighborhood drops continue every week, and if you can spare a couple of hours to cover an area drop us an email.
As summer arrives with lots of actions and events, we hope you’d be able to make a donation to support our work. We are volunteer-run, and all your donations go directly into our work. We’ve put together some info on what we did last year, and what our plans for this year are – this will hopefully give you more info on how your support will help! A 9 week course (evening classes) by Floramedica is bring run at the Leith Academy. See http://ethicalvoiceforanimals.org.uk/shownotice.php?articleid=41

Exotic meat in Edinburgh: Along with Kubali Khan and the farmers market on Castle Terrace in Edinburgh - restaurant L’Escargot Bleu on Broughton Street joins the 'exotic meat market' with horse meat on the menu. Exotic meat is just as bad as any other meat; promoting these meats as a 'trendy delicacy' only exacerbates the problem of increasing meat consumption. Aberdeen City Council is in the process of reviewing it's Animal Welfare Policy and is conducting a open consultation on this. The current Policy was written more than 10 years ago. Underweight and small common seals are showing up in Loch Linnhe and surrounding waters. Post mortems carried out on some of the seals which didn't survive have revealed severe worm burdens of the stomach or lungs. More about it here http://ethicalvoiceforanimals.org.uk/shownotice.php?articleid=48

Last year, we went to investigate an incident of a poisoned bird of prey in the Borders- on a shooting estate. Recent figures report that the number of birds of prey being poisoned in Scotland has risen by more than a third over the past year - and most of them are near shooting estates. Read more on the report here http://ethicalvoiceforanimals.org.uk/shownotice.php?articleid=46
More on the so-called sport of shooting this week as we hear that DEFRA has banned battery cages used for confining game birds. See http://ethicalvoiceforanimals.org.uk/shownotice.php?articleid=47. Hunting, shooting - all need to stop! SFA have launched a new hunt monitoring scheme, so if you can help get in touch. info@scotlandforanimals.org

The way labeling laws in the UK stand, there is no clear labeling of fur, and that means than not only you dont know if fur (trim or sporran!) is mink, rabbit, or fox, where it's from, if its dyed - but also whether or not its fake or real! As consumers, we have no way of telling what it is that we are buying. An EDM has been introduced in the Parliament, please take action and ask the Minister to introduce a labeling system. To the animals we pledge, we hear your cries and we are coming,
See you tomorrow,
Eva
